ALC advances on DC
"Retreat" to front lines

Washington DC 5-9 August

Led by various members of the Jonah House community, faith-based resisters gathered to hold ceremonies of conscience commemorating the anniversaries of the first cities sacrificed to the nuclear beast, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

By all accounts, the gathering held in the predawn half-light on the steps of the pentagon was powerful, creative, meaningful and inspiring. The mix of spirituality, awareness of the military's impact on the environment and bedrock faith in nonviolent resistance addressed the roots of both the problems and solutions. It was eventually halted by the military, who arrested 18. All were charged with demonstrating without a permit and failure to leave, with court dates either 1 or 15 October.

The next morning at the White House resulted in five more arrests with trials set for 20 October and Monday morning back at the pentagon resulted in one final arrest.
