URGENT APPEAL

Greetings from the Omaha Catholic Worker.

Normally our requests come in benign form of the monthly newsletters but the unfortunate, and bit nervous, truth is we need to email all our supporters directly.

The OCW was hit by a check scam that appeared legitimate when referenced with our bank. A check of a large donation was given to the OCW last month in a time of low funds; we thought it was a God send. The truth was revealed recently that it was a scam...after we've depleted our funds to dangerous levels paying for needs we normally wouldn't prioritize as first need.

The OCW is now in a desperate need of any form of financial assistance our benefactors might be able to comfortably provide. This month's bill will be coming shortly and, as it stands, we're not sure how we're going to be able to meet them. Any grace of yours would be most appreciated; financial, prayerful, and/or those of service. We started this CW house always believing in the loving providence of God who cares for the poor.
We continue in the same way of life and prayer each day.

Presently as of this date our bank account is at:

Bank Account: $599.00
Rent for May 2009 is $650
Utilities: aprox $450
Van expenses and Insurance $200
Food Budget: We try NOT to buy much food at the store these days. We live rather simply.

Our Food Pantry is getting rather low in canned vegetables, pasta, and our Meat supply in the freezer is very low.

Presently we have 3 guests and are accepting 2 other in the next 2 weeks. We will be at full capacity at that time.

We are very thankful to you for supporting us. We are especially thankful for those who are generous with a regular monthly donation. We rely pretty heavily on those very much needed donations.

Again, we apologize for this intrusion into your lives but we pray and hope you'll understand our necessity to reach out to as many people as we possibly can during this financial hardship.

Thanks and God Bless

Jerry Ebner
