THE
OMAHA CATHOLIC WORKER COMMUNITY
INVITES VOLUNTEERS
Dear Friend,
What greater work do we do as people of faith than the service and hospitality
we provide to the most vulnerable among us? This is the mission of the Omaha
Catholic Worker House; a Christian community committed to living our shared
Gospel values in the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin
started the Catholic Worker movement in 1933. Like our founders, our purpose
is to live in voluntary poverty, extend the work of mercy, advocate for justice
for the poor, and be a prophetic witness against violence in all its evil forms.
Our Catholic Worker home is shelter and hospitality for five homeless men.
Our needs are modest. Operating expenses for the Catholic Worker House are approximately
$2,000 per month. Can you help us continue the Catholic Worker Tradition? We
are seeking regular financial support. You may choose to:
* Join us as we celebrate
the Eucharist in community and share a meal.
* Gather for a “Clarification of Thought” on the First Friday night
of the month, (a routable discussion of a justice topic).
* Volunteer your time at the House to cook a meal, do some repairs, or simply
be present to the guests we serve.
* Donate the cost of one restaurant meal each month to our House budget
* Pray for our guests and those who support our mission.
* Learn more about Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement.
We are a small house but our potential is mighty. We offer a transitional, drug
and alcohol-free environment for five homeless men to find shelter, dignity,
and stability. Many of our guests have gone on to live independently in their
own apartments.
We appreciate your time as you consider the needs of the Omaha Catholic Worker
house. “Where two or three are gathered…”
Yours in the Peace of Jesus Christ,
Jerry Ebner
