Dear
Peace Lovers,
As you may know, Wednesday, March 19th, is the 5th anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq. The USA has already spent $495 BILLION and lost almost 4,000 American lives! Documented Iraqi deaths number more than 650,000, and even US intelligence agencies state that there are MORE TERRORISTS than ever! Please join us in imagining what we could create in the next 5 years if 4,000 trained Americans spend $500 BILLION to meet humans needs. Nobel economist Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard economist Linda Bilmes estimate that the total costs of this war could be $3 TRILLION. They state that even $1 trillion could pay for 8 million housing units, or 15 million school teachers, or 1 year's healthcare for 530 million children, or university scholarships for 43 million students! We will be on the footbridge at 60th and Dodge Streets on Wednesday from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Bring signs with big, visible lettering, and dress for the weather. It is usually colder than you think. We will hang large banners on the bridge, and will have a power horn for anyone who wishes to share thoughts and feelings about war and the new priorities you want for America. Other events that evening: A candlelight vigil at the WW II Memorial (Memorial Park) from 7-8 p.m., and a prayer vigil at St. John's Church on the Creighton campus from 8-9.
