Dear Friends of the Omaha
Catholic Worker:
Greetings to you. Recently we have received a letter from a good person here
in Omaha, that does not like our opinions or reporting of issues about the Iraq
war from a Catholic Worker position. We were told that we ought to write more
about the homeless people that we serve here. For us here, we do take care of
the poor and homeless here with us, at the same time, we pray daily for nonviolent
peace in Iraq, that our troops drop their weapons and come home and that the
participants on all sides STOP the bloodshed and seek a nonviolent peace and
reconciliation. This is a Catholic position on war. Check out www.catholicworker.org
In the mean time our house is full of guests that we spend a lot more time with
each day. The other nite we were bowling and I picked up one giest at the bus
station after a trip to Columbus, Ohio and back. All four of our guests at this
time struggle with differing forms of mental illness, and are about daily programs
and solutions to help them thru their difficulties. These are guests that would
not be able to make it thru the hard living process at Omaha's larger shelters,
that are in great needs of more money and volunteers and space for day shelters
as well.
In addition to this work, we as CW people also advocate for justice for all
of the Poor, and especially the poor that this bloody War ,on the part of the
US, is daily creating in Iraq and in our own cities as well.
The victims of a WAR economy are everywhere.
We always invite our readers and friends to come over to the house for dinner,
to see the work that we do. The work we do, is more of an experience than something
to talk or write about.
We are in need of more volunteers to do a 5-9 shift at the house. This could
be you or you and a couple of other friends. It involves cooking and preparing
dinner for about 7+ yourselves. and then hanging out having fun, playing cards,
and getting to know first hand the wounds that they have had for many years.
Call us for more details. 402- 502-5887.
