There will be an opportunity to participate in a non violent direct action witness Oct 10th at the Omaha Qwest Center, the venue where the 'Space Weapons Bazaar' is being held. We are actively seeking people who are willing to risk arrest. Such CD actions have not been done in the Omaha area in over 15 yrs. The witness - probably a "die in", should be a low risk CD effort. Keep Space for Peace Week -
Omaha Events International Days of Protest to Stop the Militarization of Space
October 4-13, 2007


Each year the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space sponsors a Keep Space for Peace Week in October. Local peace communities who have ongoing campaigns against space-war-related industries and military facilities from all over the world participate in this week of protest.

For the second year in a row the DM and Omaha CWers and the Nebraskans For Peace http://www.nebraskansforpeace.org/ have participated in the Global Keep Space for Peace Week by focusing our protest on a yearly Strategic Space & Defense Conference held at the Qwest Center in Omaha NE. This conference is hosted by the cooperate suppliers of weapons and space technologies for the STRATCom and Military Space Commands at Offutt AFB, a sort of "Space Weapons Bazaar".

Friday Oct 5th
This year's Keep Space for Peace Week in Omaha events starts Friday Oct 5th with a joint presentation by Bishop Thomas Gumbleton & Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Globe Network at Creighton University in the Rigge Science Building, Room #120, entitled, "StratCom's Role in Militarization of Space: An Update and Catholic Response" at 3:30 pm.

Saturday Oct 6th
The annual all day Nebraskans for Peace Conference will take place in Omaha and this year's key note address will be a repeat of the joint presentation by Bishop Gumbleton & Bruce Gagnon entitled, "StratCom's Role in Militarization of Space: An Update and Christian Response"
Also at this conference there will be a workshop offered entitled, "StratCom, Aerospace Corporations and the Omaha Economy A Discussion Facilitated by Carol Urner, Chair of "DISARM" (Dismantle the War Economy Project) of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom" This is a first class conference, with workshops on many current and vital issues, well worth attending. Tuesday Oct 9th
4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m: A legal nonviolent public protest at the opening ceremony and reception for the Strategic Space & Defense 2007 Conference outside the Qwest Center. Members of the public are encourage to participate.

Wednesday Oct 10th
Mid morning: Nonviolent civil disobedience outside the Qwest Center.
Anyone wishing to be part of this nonviolent civil disobedience action must contact the DM or Omaha Catholic Workers before hand and be in Omaha by Tuesday Oct 9th for the nonviolence and planning sessions.

4:30 p.m.: Legal nonviolent weekly vigil outside StratCom's Global Innovation and Strategy Center at 6825 Pine Street on the UNO campus.

Thursday, October 11
7:30 a.m to 9 a.m.: Legal nonviolent public protest outside the Qwest Center to protest the final day of the "Strategic Space and Defense
2007 Conference" from 7:30-9:00, with banners, signs and speakers.

(afternoon time to be determined) Legal nonviolent protest at the Northrup Grumman facility in Bellevue, Nebraska. A leading aerospace contractor and Pentagon client, Northrup Grumman is one of the top three corporate sponsors of this year's Strategic Space and Defense 2007 Conference.
